Memories for Memorial Day...

I wasn't totally sure what Nathan and I were going to do all weekend with Daddy gone...but I finally decided just to invite myself over to my Mom's for a mini-vacation on Friday night.  Nathan and I packed up and headed over around 5 pm.

When we got there, Grandma was busy trimming bushes...and the sweet potatoes arrived, and they had to be planted right away.  Nathan and I helped.

Here's the tator-plantin' crew (minus me of course!)

These two didn't help very much though...

People have been telling me lately I "finally look pregnant"...I guess it's true!

Nathan and I rode around in the wagon together...he wasn't too sure at first until Mommy got in...

Nathan wouldn't smile - then Grandma told him to say "cheese" - apparently that DOES actually work for little kids.  I seriously never understood that before.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After that, we came in and got ready for dinner.  It was just me, mom and Nathan again...oh, and Benners.

Nathan waiting for dinner...

First corn on the cob of summer - it's not the same until it comes from the garden, but still good.  The first summer Nathan had, he ate the corn right off the cob.  Last summer, he wouldn't touch it, and we had to cut it off for him.  This summer, it looks like we are back in business to eating it off the cob!

After dinner, Grandma made popcorn, and we sat and watched Cinderella.  Nathan didn't want to watch it, but as you can see, he loved it.  He sat on the couch for 30 minutes without moving (which could quite possibly be a record).

More coming in another post....

Friday morning of Memorial Day weekend...

Our morning started off nicely...Nathan wakes up and makes a ton of noise in his room, and Mommy lays in the bed until 8....Nathan started singing though...it was some version of Brown Bear...where he was going, "Brown bear brown who do you see??"...so then I sang back, and he ran in my room and said, "no mama!  I sing!"  And then he sang Brown Bear again, as well as Row Row Row your boat...Then he clapped for himself.

Today when I get something done...I am totally clapping for myself!!  I may also do the "Renee Happy Dance".

Then we made some breakfast...I told Nathan we would share the eggies, and so he set it up...
Two forks...one on each side...

Good thing I made three eggs...because he definately ate about half of this!

We have been continuing more aggressive potty training since the success on Monday night (#2 in the pot).  Nathan either doesn't care, or doesn't understand, how to get #1 to come out yet...although, he does tell me that he is "all empty"...which is pretty darn cute.  This morning I let him run around without a diaper and just his pj's on, so he could see what happens...of course, I was scrubbing the carpet on the steps for awhile, but it's a start...

I am so hoping to get ahold of my friend today, because it's her birthday!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MEL!

I don't get to see her very much since she is such a hard worker, so am I, and our schedules don't match.  But, Nathan and I are going to try to "drop in" on her today.  I don't have many friends, and lately, I have felt pretty lonely at times, so it's a blessing to know I always have Mel, no matter what happens.  Even when we don't talk for months, I could call her up anyday with any problem or story, and she would be there.  Thanks girl!  you're the best!

It's almost 9:30, which means in a short while, Nathan and I are going to bug out for some shopping at Archiver's.  I started some scrapbooking yesterday, and got two or three pages done, and I was able to assess what I needed.  Definately needing some brown cardstock for this one page, so will have to go and get that, as well as more paper in general so I have better choices.  Most of my next pages are summery, so I need lots of greens and outdoors type colors.

I haven't been able to sew much...I tried sewing my blocks together with Nathan the other day, and while I did get them sewn in strips, it was hard to do.  He wants to help so much that he gets in the way.  Also, it's getting a little uncomfortable to sew, so I don't know how much more of that I can do.

Anyways, off to a great start of our day!

Men = fishing

The men are all fishing.  Hubby got up at the butt-crack of dawn and drove off into the sunrise in order to catch the elusive walleye.

So, I have been asking him lately to sometime take me walleye fishing.  I just want to do it once, and then I think I will be satisifed.  I want to catch it and throw it in the bucket.  Then I want to eat (no, I don't want to filet it.).  mmmmm.  I think the walleye I catch will get to be a fish taco.  yum.

Sometimes lately we fight.  But seeing this this morning made me so happy.

A clean kitchen table!  craziness!

Of course, I had to fill it up while Daddy is gone...my goal is to get at least a few scrapbook pages done!

5.25.10

I couldn't think of anything more exciting for a title.

On Friday night, Nathan and I anxiously awaited Daddy's arrival home from work...we had gotten him his birthday present early (a new tackle box) so he could use it for his big fishing trip this weekend.

Of course, Nathan was just so very happy he could sit next to the plate of cookies...which, he helped himself to, twice!

Then we had to get the deck cleaned off for staining...Nathan says over and over again, "I help too!  I help.  Look Mama, me help Dada and Kevin."

As a complete aside, Nathan must have once seen Daddy go into the drawer where we keep packets of ketchup, hot sauce, mustard, etc., left over from restaurants one morning and put one into his work bag.  Lately, everytime Nathan remembers before we all head out for the day, he goes to the drawer, takes out a packet of sauce, and says, "Daddy, you need this..." and puts it in Chris' bag.

Chris said he isn't sure where they go though, since he hasn't found any yet...but then again, he also says he hasn't looked.

Also on Friday night, we moved Nathan to the big bed.  I went out and got him some sheets he would like (Cars) to help with the transition.  I had told him earlier and a few days before it would happen soon - he cried a few times, but once we put this big bed in his room, he was more than happy to jump off of it.

It took about two seconds for him to start calling it "me bed!".  He wouldn't stand still long enough for me to get a good shot.

YES, I KNOW IT'S GREEN.

So, here are the first two colors we painted.  The green on the right is gone...as I ended up in tears around 3PM on Saturday afternoon when I realized it was horrible and was mad at myself for even allowing myself to buy it.  I knew it wasn't going to be good, but I thought I would go with it, you know, step outside of my comfort zone, have a vibrant room, go with my husband's choice...even he said it was a little bit too much.

I am hesitant to post pictures of the final product, or take pictures yet, until its all done.   So far, the only thing people can say when they see it is, "It's green."  Which, I think is another way to say they don't like it.  I have to say after sitting it in for awhile now, I do like it, and it will only get better once the furniture is all set-up and there are things in there.

Everyday has some joy in it...

Silliness!

On Monday I gave a five minute presentation...it was, by far, the most stressful presentation of my life.  This is me taking a break from practicing on Sunday with Nathan...

Ready to be sold!

Lovin' my landscaping this year!  Only three losses, fully replaced, and everything else doing very well.  The deer are helping me with trimming my burning bushes...so who needs a hedge shears?  Not me! *stupid deer*

An insight to our family right now....

Looking not-so-pregnant here...

Why do men all stand around and admire machines?

Practicing his Joe Mauer stance....

This is his "mad at mommy" face...don't you just want to kiss it?!!

Great day today and more pictures

I had a great day today  - work was it's usual string of endless requests, but I took a break and had lunch with a friend and it really lightened my spirits!  It may have helped we sat outside and I just got to breathe some fresh air and feel the sunshine during the middle of the day - clearly something I need to do more often.

On Friday we went to go see my sister's classroom before the year ended - I got to play with the "Smart Board", so that was kind of neat.

Here's what it would look like if Mom knew how to work email...(she was pretending of course!)

I wrote a note to the students --  Karen left it up and said all the "good kids" commented on it!

Karen in her element...I seriously don't know how she teaches in this place everyday.  What the heck do schools do with all that money?  Clearly it isn't going to the classrooms.

I've been wanting to share lots of pics for awhile...

Christopher working on it some more....

Getting there!

The cats are hard at work, as usual....

Trip to the Zoo

I wanted to get a trip to the zoo in before baby comes - Chris took a day off work and away we went!

Tiger in background - I was so happy Nathan actually turned around for this shot for me...

Another blogger has inspired my picture-taking lately...hopefully my shots will continue to improve and you'll see the difference!  I want them to be full of life...

Looking very pregnant with a hood on!

I love how the Dad's stand around and watch their kids...

See that kid going down the slide?  Budged right in front of Nathan, those two girls, and other kids.  I wanted to smack him and his Mother.  Nathan was so good waiting though...he didn't go down until we told him!

Finally...

So happy to see the cows...

Looking at piggies with Daddy (I don't think Daddy was that impressed...)

He was really getting a good look at this chicken....

Feedin' Goats....

Testing out his wingspan!  He was a falcon....

I thought for sure he would splash in the fountain...or stick his hand it...but he chickened out.  We did throw some pennies in though and made wishes...
