Morning Mosquitos...

I am so tired of the stinkin' mosquito...on my walk this morning I thought if I walked fast enough, they wouldn't get me...yeah right!  I have a huge bite underneath my wrist where I was holding the stroller...it was probably the only part of me that wasn't moving.
I am totally craving a hard frost...kill the little buggars, kill the humidity!...let the fall roll in with its crunchy leaves and cool dry air...I want to open the windows and bake apple pies and butternut squash.  So, yes, that is my house with the pumpkins outside of it screaming, "Welcome Fall!  Hurry Hurry!"

Today is my last day of short term disability.  Which means, tomorrow Evan is six weeks old.  Seems a little crazy to me...I think having a baby in the summer goes by much faster than having a baby in the winter...Evan has done so much more than Nathan did in his first six weeks..he's been to the beach three times, splash parks, more walks then I can count, and just hanging outside with Mom chillin'...man, it's gone fast!

I've also had time to work on projects and work on getting back in shape.  I started running again Friday - finally felt up to it, and man, a 12 minute mile was easy!  I ran for over 15 minutes, and did a couple sprints at 6 mph because that is my goal (10 minute miles!)...did it again on Monday, and NOT SO EASY.  I could barely make it...at about 4 minutes into it I thought:  clearly I have been running for 10 minutes, right?  I felt like it!  MWF I run, T and R I walk, and Saturdays and Sundays I have off...we'll see how this goes.

This is my applique project I started back in April...you cut out the pieces on special paper, iron them onto the fabric, and cut them out.  I really enjoyed this part...

Then you put the pieces onto the background in this pattern - it's an "easy" way to create a stained glass look...you have to use a sunny window though since the background is black...
Almost done - I finished this part and ironed it permantely in place - now I have to quilt it...which, I am a little nervous about so I put it off...

Did I capture an elusive smile?  I think so!

Hangin' out at Grandma's!

These two are silly!

While I was at Grandma's on Saturday, I got a little more done on my hardanger...as you can see, the cross-stitch part is almost completed -- thank goodness!  I was getting dang tired of it.

This is Evan during our walk today...fortunately, no mosquitos got him!

High on catnip and chrome!

I got some veggies (some being a relative term, can we say 18 cups of freezer carrots done!) last night, and with it came some fresh catnip from my mom's garden.  I couldn't figure out at first why the cats wanted the veggies so much, until I remembered the catnip!

Gigi was seriously getting high on this stuff...

Roary sticking his head in the bag to get more...
Gig was acting like a limp noodle...usually she gets all tight and squirmy when you pick her up...last night she was just like, "whatever man..."
Did I mention Roary was sniffing the bag?  Oh guess what, he got it wrapped around his neck, freaked out, and ran away. I couldn't even get close enough to get it off him - Chris had to help!
Nutty cats...
Enjoying a spot of sun....

One of the things that has been on my list for awhile was to figure out how to restore our chrome to its old glamour.  And I don't mean just getting the hard water scale off...I mean, I want all the stains off -- do you see them on the picture below?  They drive me nuts!  I have tried all sorts of products, and while some of them help remove the scale, they don't remove the stain:

LimeAway - FAIL
SeeSpray/LOC Bath - FAIL
Mr. Clean Dry Erasers - FAIL
Dryer sheets - FAIL
Vinegar - FAIL
Vinegar/Lemon Juice - FAIL

Oh, but after trying many of the above suggestions (some from the internet), I finally found a combo that works:

Mr. Clean Dry Eraser + Kitchen Glass Stovetop Cleaner + Elbow Grease =

Yae!  Only like 5 more faucets/fixtures to go...

Grillin' and Chillin'

Daddy and Nathan both enjoying their drinks on a gorgeous August evening...

We broke out the sidewalk chalk and did some coloring...eventually we ended up with a road, and Nathan had to go and get a truck to drive on it...

As you can see, the road just ends.  Nathan said, "oh no Mommy!  no more road!"  I told him, "Nathan, the government ran out of money - get used to it..."  I figured he might as well learn early!

Splashin' with friends!

We went to Oak Hills park Saturday in St. Louis Park for some fun at their splash pad with some friends...

This is the crew - silly!
I love this picture - the two guys playing in the water...aren't they cute?
Pouting because he wanted lunch...
This is Nathan's friend Anna...she is too cute here!
There were two water hoses as you can see...Nathan wasn't too sure at first...
But after awhile, he thought it was great fun!

After we splashed in the water...we had a picnic lunch, then played at the park, and then back to the water for about 20 minutes and a last minute soaking for the kids - Nathan was definately worn out when we got home - I bet Anna was too!

Cheers for one month!

In all the hubbabaloo lately, I didn't realize until 4 pm this afternoon that it was the 21st, and Evan is one month old already...time is certainly flying -- although, it feels like ages ago at the same time!
Happy Birthday Evan! We love you!

This song is for you buddy -- (it makes me cry everytime I hear it almost...yes, I know, I am a complete nut...)

This is my view of Evan quite frequently....

And also this song - completely unrelated, but reminds me of you!

Only you, can make this world seem right
Only you, can make the darkness bright
Only you, and you alone, can thrill me like you do
And fill my heart with love for only you
Only you, can make this change in me
For it's true, you are my destiny
When you hold my hand, I understand
the magic that you do
You're my dream come true
my one and only you
Only you, can make this change in me
For it's true, you are my destiny
When you hold my hand, I understand
the magic that you do
You're my dream come true
my one and only you

Oh Evan....

hanging out during the witching hour...

getting big thighs...

Too adorable!

More tomorrow on our fun day at the splash park!

Right now I am looking for scraps of happiness and joy I can hold onto during this emotional hurricane I have been thrown into...

So I was so glad yesterday when Nathan kept down his breakfast, and then his lunch, and then his dinner...and was acting like a ying-yang at Grandmas...

The infirmary....

Which is great news since we have fun plans with friends tomorrow that I have been wanting to see, and I didn't want to cancel that...

And also exciting is that we have dinner plans with friends tonight, the babysitting all scheduled, and after the week I have had, I am pretty sure Chris will be driving...(hello Mr. Margarita...hello Mr. Merlot..if I wasn't already married....)

And how awesome is it that when I laid awake at four in the morning and the voices in my head wouldn't stop talking to me and the tears starting falling down again that I could turn to someone and just be held so tight and be reminded that I am loved...

And I so glad I have a good friend who doesn't care if I call her twice in one night bawling and rambling (much of which may have been inaudible) about my little problems..and who takes the time to listen and counsel and just be there...

scraps.  but good ones.

What a day and it's only 3 PM...

Last night I went to bed rather upset about something, so I slept with Nathan for a few hours.  Now I am thinking, probably not a good idea, because at 10AM this morning I got a call from daycare because Nathan had gotten sick.

He kept down some juices and bumpers for about four hours since then, but he just got up from his nap and got sick again.  I heard something like this has been going around and it's short-lived, so hopefully by tomorrow this will be over.

It is kind of sad though, because it means no fishing trip tomorrow for Chris and I.  And it also means MORE laundry for me...did I mention I washed all of Nathan's bedding yesterday and hung it outside to dry so it smelled awesome?  Argh.

So, I didn't get anything done today other than taking care of my littles, but that is okay.  Daddy cancelled his plans for the evening too so hopefully I can rest later!

I keep thinkin'...

of interesting things to write about..and then life gets in the way.

For example, I didn't think I would be comparing what credit cards have the best cash back rewards today (because Target is changing their rewards policy, so we will no longer be using their Visa everywhere) but I just spent an hour doing that.

And I didn't think I would get excited about Daisy (you know, give 'em a dollup of Daisy...the sour cream makers) coming out with a cottage cheese, but I really am, because there isn't crap in it like Kemps has!

And I didn't think shopping with Evan when he is only three weeks old was going to be this easy (because I NEVER did that with Nathan...are you kidding?)...but it was almost like he wasn't even along.  (We will see what I think later when I go back to the store with Evan AND Nathan...good thing I can bribe Nathan with cookies).

So, I did think of some interesting things to blog about, but I forgot them.  Just like how I forgot to put a stamp on the letter I put in the mailbox this morning...only to have our mailman leave it behind with a small "?" written on the letter where the stamp should be.  whoops.  clearly, maternity leave does cause some spacy-ness.

The weekend was good and busy.  I firmly believe that "idle hands are the devil's playground" because whenever I am not busy my mind wanders and I worry about things that aren't going to happen.  So, Saturday we got a ton done.  Kevin came over and helped Chris mow lawn, trim, fix my oven (was a horrible stain on the inside glass that was driving me bonkers), show the car to yet another potential buyer, and wash my carpeted steps with the steam cleaner.   I managed to clean the basement.

Clean oven glass door!

Karen brought over MORE veggies (third delivery in a week) so I chopped beans and blanches green peppers for winter chile's and soups as well.  It was BUSY!

But then, after that, we partied.  and I mean, had a GOOD TIME.  There may have been Margaritas involved.  And a Coca-cola for Nathan...and pretzels...and homemade juicy lucy's....and more Margaritas...

And as we made the burgers after a hard day's work...it was simply time to relax...

Oh how good were these...so good....

Everyone was enjoying the night...

Sunday was a busy day as well, but not in the work sense for me (Chris worked on our rental property the whole day, and wasn't home).  I watched the kids and worked on my hardanger project:

I am alittle disappointed with this pattern since there is so much cross-stitch involved and not as much hardanger...I used to cross-stitch, but now I find it boring...hopefully that part will go fast!

The daytime crew...

Yup, this is picture of the daytime crew...me, Gigi, and Evan.  Roary comes and goes, but Gigi and Evan, they are by me all day.  Here you can see we were all just chillin'.  (Yes, those are clothes on the floor that need to be put away, but today I felt like, why bother, someone is just going to wear them again soon, take them out of the nice drawer, and get them dirty and wrinkled...).

Also, if I have washed, prewashed, soaked in all fabric bleach, stain-treated, and washed Nathan's clothes again, can I give up at trying to get the embedded daycare dirt stains out of his shirts?

I thought I would get more done today than I did.  Whoops.  I didn't.  I went for a two mile walk to prove to myself I could.  I thought I would spend most of the time in prayer while I walked, talking to God about various things, but even then I got distracted by things like bugs.

So, what do I have to show for the day?  Not really anything, although, Evan has been more alert this week, and he wants to be cuddled and held more often...so, we have been doing that.  And yes, he does enjoy listening to talk radio with me...I am not sure who his favorite is..although, he slept really well yesterday during Hannity...and I don't even really like Hannity!  :-)  I was bad...I was downstairs watching Maury.  Yes, I watch Maury sometimes...makes me feel good...even if that show is made up, its like, dang, other people are messed up!  My life is good.  (L - don't shoot me for saying that!  :-))

Evan is cranking.  Not sure what is bothering him.  Guess I will go try singing or something.  Swaying?  Swaddling?  Sucking?  I think I forgot what all the 5 s's are...oh well.

Maybe I will go to Grandma's.  That always helps.  Oh wait, he just calmed himself down.  Dang kid, you are way different than Nathan already....

Water water everywhere!

Nathan had his final swimming lesson on Monday night....he has enjoyed it so much, and gotten so much better with everything in the water, I am actually considering signing him up again the next time they offer it (not offered this fall, which is a bummer!).

So happy to be swimming with Daddy...as we walked into the pool area with Grandma on Monday night, he said to her, "Grandma, I have to go with Daddy now..."  So adorable!

Putting his head back and relaxing!

We went out to dinner for a treat afterwards....Nathan got a dessert shot!

Tuesday was a wash.  I did nothing.  I was emotional...etc..etc...but, today we went to the beach.  I kept Nathan home from school and we had a great time in the sun!

Auntie Karen with Anna and Nathan

Mommy and Nathan practicing our splashing skilz!

Group shot - except for Karen taking the pic...(Evan is in the stroller in the back...)

Splashing in the fountains on the way out....

I would blog more, but Evan is calling me!
