Oh my lovelies....

I fell in love with this fabric a few weeks ago and have been thinking about it quite a bit....

Today I splurged.

It felt really good.

The blue will be stars, the white background, and the brown is for four patches...
Evan smiling and cooing under his star...the closest he has been to laughing!

Things...

I am so tired of dealing with our insurance company...I am *almost* willing to just write them a check just so I don't have to deal with them anymore.  If money wasn't suddenly a concern I think I would.  I am so tired of calling them, to be told one thing by a customer service representative, to calling the actual provider, to calling the insurance company back to be told something else.  I am not sure why an insurance company would pay a claim, and then demand the money back, only to say, whoops, we should pay that, and pay it again?!  This all after HOURS on the phone.

On top of that, our rental property isn't rented.  That is not good.  If it doesn't get rented by November, it is going to be like having three kids in daycare every month cost-wise.  Yikes!

This week I am getting back into things...last week was so packed with dentist, doctor appointments, visiting friends, celebrating anniversaries (yae 7 years today!) that I didn't get much done.  There are only three days left to September so I need to make them count (that means, no facebook games!).

We went to the Melting Pot on Saturday afternoon to celebrate our anniversary...we drank red wine, ate incredibly slow, and savored every bite of cheesy bread, buttery lobster, peppered steak, terikayi shrimp, and dark chocolate strawberries and cheesecake.

We spent Sunday doing family things...since we haven't had much of a day just being a family lately....

Nathan with his tractor magazines sleeping....

This is the morning routine:  Nathan getting two figgies...

Baking cookies....

Having an art show....

Planting a tree...our new birch!

And watching Christopher try his first cigar...it smelled really good!

First Day of Preschool

Here's my little boy on his first day of preschool!  He has been visiting for two weeks now and will be there full time starting today.   He looks so big in this picture, yet to me he is so small...not even three years old yet.

And here is Evan on Nathan's first day of preschool....as you can see, he didn't even get up to say goodbye to his brother!  sleepy....

Getting closer...

Cross-stitch all done!  WOOT!

What is this?  A shirt?  NO!  It's a clothspin bag...totally cute! (Made this yesterday for a gift...what a great way to use an old outfit!)

Two months!

Happy boy!

Busy weekend away...

Chris was on a fishing trip this past weekend, so me and the kids packed it up and went to Grandma's early Friday afternoon.

I picked Nathan up from daycare and he was in the preschool room having lunch - how ironic was it (but good) that I had to be carded since the teachers there didn't recognize me (one of them was new - only there two weeks).  Nathan seemed to be doing really well and fitting right in -- which I knew he would since he is the last one his age to be moving up from the toddler room.

Not happy - lotioned up before we left!
Once Grandma got home, we did chores...
Feeding birds...
Riding around...

Dad planted these cute little pumpkins (not gourds) this year...the white ones are gourds though...I loved how I set these up, but of course, the crazy cats have already started knocking them down.

I didn't take many other pictures the rest of the weekend...too busy I guess with things!

We are excited (and slightly tired already) for the busy week we have planned.  Chris and I are celebrating our 7th anniversary Saturday, we are having dinner with friends Thursday and Friday night, and we have dentist and doctor appointments, and a coffee visit during the week.

I also had my class Saturday (quilting) and fell in love with some new fabrics they had there.  I have this desire that just keeps growing with each day to run back down there and buy some and figure out something to make with it!

Squashy, carroty, rainy day...

Today I was cooking up a mess of carrots (yesterday I did squash) because I doubt we will eat them anyways before they go bad...they are still cooking!  I need them soft so I can make them into a puree for Evan...

Also, I have been working on the backing to this quilt (Bright Batik Quilt)...as you can see, I almost had enough fabric to have it pieced with leftovers, but I had to add the green on the two sides because the quilter needs at least 6 inches on one side and 2 inches on the others...

Evan actually likes the swing...so he has been hanging out in there lately when I sew and quilt...

Tummy time!  This kid falls asleep on his tummy all the time...

I need to start on Evan's stocking...although, I didn't finish Nathan's until last year so I guess it's no rush.  But, I have the five stockings below that I have picked up over the years because I love these.  I dug out Nathan's to see what his was, and  he has a big snowman, so I don't think I will do a snowman for Evan, so its down to the three Santa's.  I am leaning towards the two on the right...hmmm.  Hard decision!

Hanging out with Grandma...

Grandma taught Nathan how to drink the milk from the bowl (maybe he aleady knew, but I had never seen it before)

He didn't leave a drop...
Later in the day we went outside to the garden to get a few things...
Classic Benner

Helping Grandma pick the final beets...

Where is Nathan?

Posing for a picture...there were some big pumpkins!

Hauling stuff back to the house...

Spending time with Nathan this afternoon...

Nathan needed new shoes, so I picked him up from daycare rather early to go shopping.  Here are some snippits from our conversations...the things that he says lately just surprise me!

As we left daycare

Mommy:  Nathan, we are going to go to Grandma's to get some tomatoes, and then to the store to get new shoes
Nathan:  Oh-tay!  Mom - Mommy - Mom.  Yesterday I picked tomatoes at Grandma's.  Big uns and ittle uns.
Mommy:  how many did you pick?
Nathan:  Lots and lots!  Big uns and ittle uns!  Mom - this way is to Grandma's, that way is to home.

Conversation after going to Grandma's, getting the tomatoes, and getting a milk dud:

Mommy:  Nathan, what did you do at school today?...Nathan, are you excited to get new shoes?...Nathan, are you listening?
Nathan:  (silence)
Mommy:  Nathan, why aren't you talking to Mommy?
Nathan:  Whys?  Because I have chocolate in my teeth Mom.  I am trying to get it out.

Conversation on the way to Target

Nathan:  Mom, are we going to the store?
Mommy:  Yes.  Should we get a container for all your new train stuff?
Nathan: Yeah Mom! That is a really good idea...(since when did he know what an "idea" is?!)

Nathan: Mom, are we going to Target?
Mommy:  Yes...  What does Target have Nathan?
Nathan:  Red circles and balls!
Mommy:  And what else?
Nathan:  Cookies.  I love cookies.  They are my favorite.
Mommy:  Oh...I didn't know that...
Nathan:  I have lots and lots of favorites Mom.

Conversation after getting shoes at Kohl's and some naughtiness

Mommy:  Nathan, we don't run around in the store.  You have to stay by Mommy.  There are naughty people out there that are not nice, and they could take you away.  Some people are bad.  So you have to stay by Mommy to be safe.  Okay?  Do you understand?
Nathan:  No, I don't.  I don't understand Mom.
Mommy: Why don't you understand?
Nathan:  Whys?  Because Mom, if I understand, I will be nervous.

That sad part is, Nathan is right...

Moon...

My mom is a moon watcher.

When I lived at home, I really didn't care about the moon.  But once I moved out, when I looked up at night and saw the moon, I thought about home and my mom, and so I started to watch the moon.

And I am now a moon watcher.

But, I never really have understood the thing.  Like, why does it sometimes rise in the morning and set at night?.. and which way is waning and which way is waxing (I think I learned this in 8th grade but forgot it now).

But, then I found a cool app for igoogle, that shows me the moon phases every minute of the day.  And considering that I pretty much google something at least once a day, I can see the moon phases now.

But, that still didn't explain the moonrise/moonset thing, so then I found this website which shows me the times by month, by area:  http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/astronomy.html?obj=moon&n=159

It's sweet.

And did you know that on earth it takes the moon around 29 days to complete a cycle, but if you were in space, it would only take 27 days?  That is because the earth is rotating and so is the moon, so it takes longer when you look at it from earth because we are moving.  Fascinating!

Thursday already?

Can't believe it's Thursday already, but dang, I am excited because my friend and I are going to hang out - I haven't seen her in ages!

Evan has been smilin' for me the past couple mornings as we talk and wiggle...I have been trying to catch the elusive thing and have been close but no luck so far...oh how I love big gummy baby smiles!!

right before a big smile for me!
I spent two hours yesterday trying to figure out if we should refinance our mortgage...while I think over the next 10 years it would save us some $$, the whole process is so annoying...

On another note, we finally found and got a train table for Nathan!  It was the first and probably the best thing we will ever buy off of Craigslist!

Roary has been funny lately...doesn't this make you smile?

Quilted!  This is the first thing ever I have "really" quilted other than small paper piecing projects...I think I did really well considering!  Now I just have to finish the binding and we are done...applique is fun, I will definately try it again...

I am lovin' maternity leave...coffee and painting nails in the morning...

and wearing Halloween socks early in September on a Thursday cause I feel like it....

Quiet Monday followed by Baptism Sunday...

It was a busy weekend!...Saturday Chris was over to my parents helping bale hay, and Nathan went to Grandma's for a bit so I could make an attempt at my first homemade cheesecake...

which turned out great (the crust wasn't the best but the cheesecake was delish) but I forgot to take a picture and alas, it is all eaten now!

Godfather Kevin with family - it was a special day even though it went by quickly...

It was a long morning for Nathan...two hours of sitting still in church and he was getting ancy!!

They didn't finish baling hay on Saturday, so they were going to go to the baptism Sunday, and then to our house for  "quick" lunch, and then back home to bale.  We didn't want people to rush, so we had people over in the evening rather than in the afternoon, and it worked out better - the kids got naps, I had more time to prep/clean and I also took a nap, and everyone got their work done.
Grandma and Evan...he loves snuggling -- we had a hard time putting him to bed last night because he just wanted to be held...

The spread...burgers and other stuff...
Chief cook and bottle washer...
I think everyone had a great time...

The mosquitos this week are still out in droves, despite the drop in the temperature.  And now they have started flocking into the house, which is worse...we are killing mosquitos every night - even Nathan kept calling me to his room the other night telling me there was a mosquito in there...finally I found it and killed it.

I think today we will be relaxing and spending time indoors...maybe I can find some time to work on a project...

Nathan Update

An update on my little tator tot:

-Been going #1 AND #2 in the potty this week

-Has been demanding he wear underwear to bed (Mommy is not that brave yet, however, so the underwear goes OVER the diaper)

-Tells us to "pause my show" when it's time for dinner...where the heck did he learn that?  Then, he checks to make sure it is "paused"...

-Likes to go into the cupboard and get himself a few fig newtons (sometimes without asking...ut oh!)...often leaves Trucker in there in the mornings, poor Trucker...

Trucker

-Wanted to share the pillow the other night with Evan...I turn around and Evan has a pillow over him covering his entire body...

-Is moving up to preschool in a few weeks (my baby is in preschool?  what?!)

-Is learning Christmas songs...his favorite to sing: Jingle Bells, his favorite for me to sing:  Rudolph

-Has been feeding himself at dinner the past three nights (slight regression there after Evan was born)...

Nathan's favorite dinner...fried sunfish!

-Tells me Oreos are his favorite, after fig newtons...and he likes the brown oreos better than the black ones...(or the yellow ones better than the blue ones, if you go by the packaging color)...

-If we are out of something he says, "Mommy, you need to go to the store"...men I tell you!

Sweet September...

I welcomed September quite sleepily this morning at 5AM...happy to report Evan is now sleeping a consistent 6 - 7 hours each night...it's hard to believe he is six weeks old today...

And with that came my six week checkup -- I have to admit, I don't miss going to the doctor...hard to believe I was going once or twice a week there for awhile!  I'm praying all the standard tests she ran show I am back to normal...no news is good news, right?  I haven't heard anything yet....

Yesterday was an exciting day for our bedroom - my valance was finally put up!  Let me tell you, after ordering about 10 valances (to see which one looked best), returning them, ordering the hardware (which got smashed by UPS and had to be re-ordered), and then putting the valance onto the hardware (NOT EASY) and finally getting it up, I am very happy.

Ta-Da!

Please ignore the roman shade - it soon shall be trash....it actually is the reason for the new valance, it broke, and since it was beyond repair (you can't open it anymore), I needed to order something new.  I had to do a custom order though and am still waiting for that to arrive.

I realize posting this picture that it really doesn't mean much to anyone because you cannot see how hard I worked to match the bedspread, and get something I liked, and the right length, and that would match the walls and the woodwork...oh well!  its there now people and i am not taking it down.

muhahahaha!

i need a beer.  Ace Pear Cider.  It's been a long day and yet hard to believe usually this time of year I am scrambling to get yet another 1120 e-filed, or an M1 signed off on, or waiting on apportionment from the client to get the 9/15 states out on time...I guess I really didn't have that hard of a day...
