Our new tree!

I have been meaning to post pics of my tree for awhile.  I had an old fake tree from my parents in this corner, and it was like 20 years old, and if you even looked at it the wrong way, a leaf or stem would just fall off.  Anyways, I had a gift certificate, and got this tree and I love it!
Nathan insisted it get decorate with Candy Canes even though Christmas was over...

I put twinkle lights on it, on a time.  They go on at 5 and off at 10!  I love that.

Notice my one Valentine's deco is out...
I also got a new camera for Christmas that has some cool settings...the boys were wrestling (yes, this happens A LOT...BOYS!) and the pictures aren't blurry like they used to be!

A rare glimpse....

I think every Mom needs a small, private place of her own.  I have one...however, sometimes it gets invaded....

Here comes the intruder!
I don't really care what people think about me when it comes to my space...my closet is my sanctuary many days.  It is a walk-in closet, and it has a vent, and a bookshelf that holds mostly my stuff (actually, mostly my stuffed animals from when I was younger that I still love).

I normally  have two or three pillows in there, some blankets, a book or two I am currently reading, a few books that I own, my journal (which I haven't written in in ages), and all the normal closet stuff.  There have been many tears wept in that closet, many long nights laying there on that floor, thinking, praying, worrying, thanking, praising.  Probably not enough of the thanking and too much of the worrying, but I do the best I can!

Where is your sanctuary?

New Year's Day

Finally - some snow!!! (although, our weather here since then as melted most of it...)

Evan says, "it sure is hard to work this shovel with these mittens that don't have thumbs!"

It is interesting to see how the boys are the same at times, and yet so different.  When we took Nathan out in the snow when he was Evan's age, he would scream, and cry, and whine...I remember Chris taking video of Nathan just bawling the whole time he was outside...not Evan!  He must have fallen down about 20 times, but he would get right back up and look at us like, "hey!  wait for me!  I'm coming, I'm just little!"

Stuff

(written last Tuesday night)

So, here I sit, the night before I have to go back to work after almost two weeks off.  Dang, it is hard.  And, no offense to all the normal people out there, but it is not like I am going back to work to a normal 8-5, M-F job...now starts tax season.  Goodie.  60, 70, 80 hour weeks here I come...hopefully less than last year with this new firm, but I want to make a good impression, so I am not setting myself up to fail by thinking I won't be working a lot. I think it is funny when people give me a hard time about my part time schedule...CPA's total hours at most firms for the year are 2,400...the normal person only works 2,080.  Thats 300+ extra hours we put in...not that we are necessarily paid more for it...I guess we just like the pain or something.  I used to work with some people that worked 3,000 hours a year!  They loved it.  Insane, I tell you. but yes, back to the grind.

I seriously wonder how I am going to get out of bed tomorrow.

Evan was very out of sorts tonight.  Came home, ate some food, and just started screaming at me.  I put him to bed.  He immediately fell asleep.

I am kind of cranky myself too...I think knowing I have to go to work tomorrow looming over me is causing it.  I think I will curl up with a book and read for a couple hours.

I got a few scrapbook pages done today, and tried a new Mac and Cheese recipe..very cheesy, very heavy.  We are going to be eating leftovers of it for two weeks.  Good thing I am jogging again.

Nathan tonight said on the way home, "mom, I want to go to kindergarten, but I can't, because I don't know the way?  do you?  Or do we need a map?"  To which I said, "Nathan, I know how to get there, but you are too little for kindergarten."  He said, "oh, I guess I don't need a map then."

I should also post his Christmas morning breakfast prayer...wish I had had the video camera.  He sang, "Jesus loves everyone...Everyone loves Jesus...Everyone loves Christmas...If you are not naughty, you will get presents."  Amen.

New Year's Eve

We stayed home.  For the first time in years.  It was great - Chris and tried out my new Margarita glasses, we made home-made pizzas, and Evan wow'ed us with his M&M sorting abilities.

And almost in the ditch....

We got a new camera for Christmas...and have been practicing on it.  The only thing it doens't do on "auto" is take pictures in low light, but I found when I switch it to the low light setting, it does really well.  Pretty cool for a pretty small camera.

Nathan got a V.Tech V.Smile system from his Uncle for Christmas.  We hooked it up on Christmas Day and he loved it, but it only came with six very short games.  On Thursday we returned items while Nathan and Evan were at Grandma and Grandpa's playing with Izzy and Henry..boy did they LOVE that!  They just had the best of time.  Anyways, Chris and I went to 5 stores and only one store had a game for this system Nathan got...turns out, the system had been discontinued, which was why it was for sale at Fleet Farm in the first place (where we had to return it to).  Anyways, since Nathan loved it so much, we got him a "MobiGo" handheld game instead -- more expensive, but better for us because he won't be on the tv.  Well, the kid just loves it!

His first try at the MobiGo...I hope this toy lasts!  So far he is taking real good care of it...

Trying on a new shirt - he possibly has a broken wrist??  We hopefully will find out today...

Camera test -- too cute!

typical renee pose...on the phone, curled up, warm socks, brandy.

Gotta love Roar!

Few things in life better than a clean kitchen...especially after it has been dirty for DAYS....
This is Kevin below...reading on the internet about the Saturn...why you ask?  Because as I was running errands on Friday, including a trip down to the U to turn in my graded papers, I was turning onto the entrance ramp on 35W and my car wouldn't turn - it was like it locked up and slowed down - almost into the ditch I went.  I cranked the wheel hard - it was like driving the H or B Farmall tractor, and got it to the other side of the road.  I shut the car off and turned it back on, but the thing wasn't working.  I called Chris - the day before he had purchased a part since it had been shifting really hard and had replaced it - obviously it did NOT fix the problem.  I sat on the side of the road for about 45 minutes until Chris came....he started the car up - no problems whatsoever, and drove the stupid thing home.  We took the side roads.

It was pretty scary.  I am just glad I didn't have the kids with and it didn't happen while going 60 mph on the freeway...can't imagine what would have happened then.

Well, so Kevin came over later and fortunately, the car acted up for him so he could see what it was doing...turns out the part Chris had put in the day before was DEFECTIVE.  ARGH.  Anyways, Chris and I were talking and I am just not trusting that car lately.  Putting my kids in it makes me nervous.  It hasn't done anything since, but it has had issues for months.  We have started thinking about a new car...it is 8+ years old, even though it only has like 70,000 miles on it.  I don't really want a car payment though, but who does?

So, Santa always buys me a MN New Years Day Lottery ticket, and last night, when I was looking up the numbers, I seriously thought for a moment that this was my time, and when Chris came home to pick up the kids I would look at him with a shocked face and say, "we won a million dollars".

Well, it wasn't.  Not one number that started with 581 won.  Not even a lousy $100.

Today is my last day off.  Not really a day off at all...it is a Tuesday, and I am washing sheets and doing the things I would normally do on a Tuesday, with the exception of I cannot seem to get out of bed in the morning (how said is 8:47?!!! pretty sad!!!).  Anyways, I ate breakfast and wasn't feeling good...wrenched my neck (my neck has been very sore since I was sick over Christmas anyways) and then went for a run.

11:57 minute mile =  LAME.  Pretty bummed. We will see how I do on Friday.  My running days are Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday.  I have to be tough on myself...I have three boys to keep up with!

Christmas at Chris' Parents

Grandkids...yes, my kid was the one crying!

Much happier once the presents started...

Soccer ball!

Santa came to our house!

After we packed up from my Mom's house, we came home to find that Santa had arrived at our house as well!  Nathan was pretty surprised to find his new bike.  It was so warm that the next day (the 26th) we actually were able to go outside and ride it around the culdeesac.

There are no pictures of Evan, well, because, we didn't know it at the time, but he did not sleep the night before very well at all and was a crank so we had put him to bed..well, because he had the stomach bug (which we realized later when our very good eater wouldn't eat).  Which I got a few hours (minutes) after these pictures were taken...I thought it was just me and my usual nervousness, but while watching the TBS marathon of the Christmas story, I ran to the bathroom, and well, you know the rest of the story.

I spent the night laying downstairs on the couch drinking Powerade and eventually making progress to a cracker with some butter.  I got the chills and Chris did tell me I had a temp, so I managed to keep down some Tylenol which helped.  My brother got me the DVD "Fiddler on the Roof" though, which is 180 minutes long, so I actually got through the whole thing, although, I did fall asleep at the end.  Honestly though, most of the good songs are in the first two hours...

The next day I went over to my parents to take care of the dog and cats...I was supposed to be over there Monday and Tuesday night without interruptions so I could scrapbook, but Daddy wanted to go to the Wild game with his brother Monday night so I had to come back home to watch the kids.  It was a blessing though, because after Daddy left Nathan threw up three times for me.  By the time Chris got home, Nathan was on his third round of pj's, the bedding was in the wash, and the floors had been scrubbed.  I was glad Nathan wasn't with anyone else because it would have just spread further...it was a short lived thing though, by Tuesday afternoon everyone's tummies were feeling much better.  Good thing we didn't plan on any school for the week!
