Merry Christmas Cookies...whew!

this is the first year that there is no christmas cookie making craziness at my mom's or with my mom.  I think we are all getting tired (or old!), but I was glad, because then I could just make cookies on my own time with my boys.

Although, I still stink at the frosting.  It tasted great, but didn't look as pretty as my moms...not sure what I did.  I gave myself a big fat FAIL at the frosting.  Although,  Nathan tasted it and said it was De-li-cious!

note how Evan is just supervising while eating popcorn...

I told Nathan NOT to pose and so then Evan does.  Sheesh.

the fearless roller....

Nathan sugars like my mom...very light...not like me at all! I load that sugar on, I like to see it!

you guys are hilarious....

I keep a bunch of Nathan's artwork in his box, but some things I don't keep.  But, I do like to take pictures of some of the things I don't keep...this was a huge painting he did, but I love his description of what it is below....

Nathan and Evan were yelling at me to "come see them" and this is what I got.  too cute!

Helping Mommy with cookies last week after shots...

He loved the nut grinder...he says, "Mommy, I really like this job!"

Whew.  Done.

We have all been struck down with some sort of head cold, and I think Christopher got the worst of it.  I came down with it last night, but am taking tons of C's to see if I can ward it off.  I didn't sleep much last night!

I wasn't planning on working today but work I did...I ordered a wreath from a coworker's boy scout troop and it is SO NICE! I hung it outside already.

What a busy *short* week it will be...tomorrow is "Stone Soup" at the kid's school, followed up our visit to Santa at the mall (ALWAYS before Thanksgiving), and then on Wednesday we are going to keep the kids home just to spend a day together as a family.  I think we are going to try bowling...Chris AND the kids can use the ramp.  :-)

Veryveryvery late Halloween post...

I don't know why, but November has completely gotten away from me...the first week was crazy busy, then it was the election which caused me to lose a few days, and then I traveled this past week for work...so, here we are still at Halloween and its a few days until Thanksgiving!

Anybody else love lists?  I have lots and lots of catching up to do on everything and those that makes lists, you would envy mine.... It just grows and grows and grows....I would really like to catch up, but then, my lists would be so sad.

Anyways, here are a few Pirate and Dragon pictures!

At first I asked the kids to stand up and smile...but that wasn't working....so, then I asked for pirate and dragon faces, and I got some good ones (Nathan kept half laughing at first...so cute!)

I love how Evan is trying to stab Nathan here...oh little brothers...

Good mean face Nathan!

Finally a laugh from Evan!

Apples from Grandma...this makes me think I should make some baked apples or apple crisp tomorrow night for dinner....maybe something home but something that won't clash with turkey on Thursday....hmmm....

Memory lane...

Or otherwise known as, cleaning out a drawer.

I found my old calculator.  I used this bad boy throughout college and high school (graphing calculators sucked, especially for an asprining CPA)...I was sad though to find that while the battery was still going strong, one of the digits no longer displayed anymore, so into the trash it went.

do you think kids will have calculators in the future?  I mean, everything is getting put on phones nowadays, I wonder if they will just use their phones...

I also found a bunch of my old stationary.  I loved that Garfield stuff, so I saved and saved and saved it...and now it is just old!  I also had some stuff left from a gift received from a friend in 7th grade.

I got this in the mail from Chris one Valentine's day...well, not the picture and the frame, but the heart....I think Babe came with it (I loved Babe!)

Nathan's Surprise Party - Pictures Galore!

Nathan hasn't had a birthday party since he was 2, so I decided this year that he was going to have a great birthday!  He asked a long time ago if he could "someday have a party where people said 'surprise'" so I thought we could do that for him.

I did appetizers....which, I thought would be easy, but Stromboli is a lot of work when you make a bunch of it!

Look at that bread...go bread go!

Mess in the kitchen before the party....

I loved that it was so cold out...I didn't have to refrigerate anything!

Stromboli's in progress...next time, the spicy ones will get a lot more spice because Chris said he could barely taste it...

Here is the cake made the night before...I just did an easy box cake with two construction machines...Nathan loved it.  The frosting was new - I wanted a whipped cream frosting that didn't melt, and found a really good one online...this one does have cream cheese which I think is why it doesn't melt, and I got a lot of compliments on it because it wasn't too heavy and wasn't too sweet, so that was great.

Here are the decorators before the surprise!

Evan waiting for his brother...

So, we all waited for Nathan to get up from his nap and this was his reaction after the "SURPRISE!".  He was totally out of it.

Evan and Auntie were pumped though!

Once Nathan got all of his parts moving, he was ready for his FIVE treasure maps to find his FIVE treasures hidden around the house.

Here are the kids digging for treasure...

Evan looking for treasure too....

Dinner....

Silly silly Evan....

After dinner the kids went out, and since Nathan is 5, he decided he could swing super high now on his own.  And he did.  Oh the power of positive thinking!

CAKE TIME!!

Nathan got a cuddle blanket and the boys enjoyed it right away!

It was a good day and Nathan enjoyed his gifts!

A few fun things I did last week....

Well, the first is that I bought a Pfaff sewing machine!  Very exciting purchase for me.

The second is I finally finished this wall hanging that I started in January....

I actually quilted it myself on my old machine...which is why I decided officially last week that it was time for a new one.

I have been looking for quite some time...and on my week off, I went and tried out the machine for almost two hours one day.  It was like test driving a car, but longer, and better, because the woman was so patient with me.  I have unlimited classes, but I don't think I will have a drop of time to take one until after Thanksgiving...my weeks are just booked up!  I tell people my new machine is like going from driving a tractor to driving a Cadillac...its just so completely different its hard to compare.

The night before I was to go and buy it I kept thinking about how it cost way too much, and I kept waking up Chris to ask him if it was okay.  Especially with the medical bills rolling in now, I really felt bad.  At the same time, we don't spend our money casually...we save and are responsible and very conservative with it - probably even too conservative.  I need to give more of it away.  It's just money.  But anyways, its a one time purchase (at least for hopefully like 15 years) so when I think of it more as an investment, that makes me feel better.

And the thing has pink on it!  could it get any better?  i love pink.

We also have done some puzzles in the past few weeks due to Chris' hand...I got into this one and did most of it myself...so fun and relaxing.  I would work on this late at night while we watched Band of Brothers...that way I didn't have to watch too much when there were parts that were scary....

I finished it late on Saturday night, which I had to, right before the party on Sunday. I was so pumped after I finished it that Chris and I did something we never do - ordered pizza at like 11PM and ate the whole dang thing!  dang it was good.  Best Papa John's I think we have ever had.  I am excited for the next time we feel like doing something like that.  Or at least, when I feel like it - Chris is so easygoing I think he would be game for whatever.

This week has been hard on me.  I have felt stressed and tired - the birthday party on Sunday (a blog post to come on that) took more out of me than I thought, and then work hasn't been busy but I've been busy doing admin work, and just keeping up with the kids, argh!

But good news on Chris' hand - it is healing well and he got the stitches out and does not have to wear the brace anymore.  Maybe I will take a current picture of it and post it on here for all to see.  I can tell he wants the progress to go faster, he seems sad he doesn't have any strength or power in his fingers yet, but I guess what can you expect when you cut a muscle in two and its only been 3 weeks?  It really makes you appreciate all the things you can do with two hands...I mean, seriously, some of the things he struggles with you wouldn't even think about, like opening a can of olives...

Nathan and Evan had really good weeks last week...Evan only had one day of attempted biting, and it seems like he is calming down alittle bit now with that (knock on wood)...I know it is a phase, but I always worry the phase will become a perpetual thing.  Nathan has been doing way better at nap/quiet time as well....he had a rough afternoon today, but part of me doesn't blame him.  Some of those kids (and their related parents) are just dang mean.  One of his friends didn't even invite him to their birthday party and let him know that -- he was a little upset but not overly bothered, but boy, I was burning inside.

I struggle with that because I was left out and forgotten all the time in school - I think it bothered me the most in high school.  Monday mornings were the worst!  Hearing about what everyone did over the weekend and then to be asked, "why didn't you come over?" to which I would respond, "i wasn't invited."  And my friends would say, "oh" or "well, your mom wouldn't have let you come anyways."  I think that is why I am so close to my sister and brother, as well as a few other friends -- despite what anyone tells you, it does hurt to be left out...

tomorrow is an exciting day...having the ladies over to sew!!  woohoohoo!
